Interactive images
This section combines two views of the Leeds and Liverpool canal:
- a technical plan made with a view to the future construction of the canal, published in the Gentleman’s Magazine in 1772.
- engravings from Turner’s river drawings showing a retrospective view with several time schemes - the engraving technique was itself pioneering - mezzotint and steel engraving.
These views will be combined according to several types of interactive effects available on websites; reflect:
- on the alternative views of such places in the 18th and 19th centuries
- on their present-day digital interpretations
This is an example of the ’art/technology’ issue
